The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has initiated a criminal investigation into the police raid of a newspaper office in Marion County. The raid, which took place last week, has sparked outrage from journalists across the country who view it as a violation of the First Amendment. It is unclear whether the state investigation is targeting the local officers who conducted the search or the reporters and editors of the small weekly paper. The Marion police and the local county attorney sought the assistance of the KBI in investigating allegations of “illegal access and dissemination of confidential criminal justice information.”
