WaPo: Scanning technology is coming to detect child porn. Here’s what it means by Shira Ovide:

(“Police have a new tool to find sexually explicit images of children. Experts say it can be useful but may also be ripe for abuse. ‘It’s hard to argue against technology to help catch people accused of preying on children. But defense attorneys and law enforcement watchdogs say that crime-fighting technology like Cellebrite’s can also tempt government authorities into overuse with little public oversight. Jumana Musa and Michael Price, with the Fourth Amendment Center at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, worry that the expansive device searches possible with tools like Cellebrite risk trampling on Americans’ constitutional protections against unreasonable government searches. There’s also a risk of errors in using technology to hunt for child abuse images.’”)
