IA: Trained drug dog’s instinctive jump into the window of def’s car didn’t make the dog sniff unreasonable

A trained drug dog’s instinctive jump through an open window and into defendant’s vehicle did not violate his right to be free from unreasonable searches. [If the dog is so well-trained, what’s it doing jumping through the window anyway? The handler can’t handle it? It’s a police entry into the car.] State v. George, 2016 Iowa App. LEXIS 1220 (Nov. 9, 2016).

The initial police encounters with the defendant weren’t seizures. Defendant was seen lurking around cars in the middle of the night, and footprints from one car broken into led to him. State v. Rockingham, 2016 Iowa App. LEXIS 1172 (Nov. 9, 2016).*
