Dallas News: Invasive body cavity searches will now require a warrant by Brandi Grissom:

AUSTIN — Dashboard camera footage from a Texas state trooper’s car caught Angel and Ashley Dobbs’ traumatic traffic stop. The video showed a female trooper probing the women’s anuses and vaginas on the side of the road near Irving as cars drove past. Adding insult to injury, the trooper used the same glove on both women.

That July 2012 incident sparked national outrage. The trooper lost her job, the Texas Department of Public Safety changed its training protocols for body cavity searches, and the women received a hefty settlement.

Three years later, the effects of that traffic stop – and other similar incidents – continue, as a new state law takes effect Tuesday to require officers to obtain a search warrant before conducting body cavity searches during roadside traffic stops.
