Police responded to a suicide in progress call and entered defendant’s bedroom. Their purpose was not search for evidence but respond to an emergency. The defendant assaulted the officers with a sword. Under the attenuation doctrine, defendant’s subsequent crime against the officers broke any causal connection. State v. Lee, 2021 Haw.
