After private search, police did not expand on the first search

The first search of the premises because of an apparent meth lab was by an apartment manager and maintenance man, and this was a private search. They called the police, and the police search was both within the scope of the initial private search and exigency because of the hazardous nature of a meth lab. United States v. Crow, 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 176072 (W.D.Mo. Dec. 1, 2015), adopted 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 15454 (W.D. Mo. Feb. 9, 2016).

The search of defendant’s cell phone was a private search by his wife, and she found sexual images not involving her. She showed the images to the police and that did not expand the private search. United States v. Rivera-Morales, 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 176068 (D.P.R. Oct. 26, 2015),
