One did not have to have key to have apparent authority

Defendant’s live-in girlfriend did not have to have a key to have apparent authority to consent where the officers knew that she had been living with him for 7-8 months and apparently did not even need a key. The automobile exception supported seizure of a car that was used to transport the defendant and the money to the scene of a drug buy which would have been used to transport the drugs back if he had not been arrested. United States v. Abulaban, 2008 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 45322 (E.D. Va. June 10, 2008).*
