Ohio: Fourth Amendment Rights, American History Series:

Professor Carolyn Long discusses the Supreme Court decision Mapp v. Ohio, in which the court expanded Fourth Amendment rights regarding unreasonable searches and seizures. In 1957 police forced their way into Dollree Mapp’s home and confiscated pornographic material. After reaching the U.S. Supreme Court, Ms. Mapp was freed because the evidence to convict her was considered to be obtained illegally under the Fourth Amendment. In this talk, Ms. Long discusses the implications of this landmark ruling, and how law enforcement and the judicial system have chosen to interpret the case. The Kansas City Public Library hosted this event.

b2evALnk.b2WPAutP Continue reading →

["post-9671","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry
["GET
