{"id":8839,"date":"2013-06-06T08:02:30","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T08:02:30","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-06-06T08:02:30","slug":"en-US","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=8839","title":{"rendered":"NYTimes: U.S. Is Secretly Collecting Records of Verizon Calls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NYTimes: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/06\/us\/us-secretly-collecting-logs-of-business-calls.html?hp&amp;_r=0\">U.S. Is Secretly Collecting Records of Verizon Calls<\/a> by Charlie Savage and Edward Wyatt:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>WASHINGTON \u2014 The Obama administration is secretly carrying out a domestic surveillance program under which it is collecting business communications records involving Americans under a hotly debated section of the Patriot Act, according to a highly classified court order disclosed on Wednesday night. <\/p>\n<p>The order, signed by Judge Roger Vinson of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in April, directs a Verizon Communications subsidiary, Verizon Business Network Services, to turn over \u201con an ongoing daily basis\u201d to the National Security Agency all call logs \u201cbetween the United States and abroad\u201d or \u201cwholly within the United States, including local telephone calls.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The order does not apply to the content of the communications. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What possible justification is there for &#8220;all calls.&#8221; If a judge says it&#8217;s OK, it doesn&#8217;t &#8220;violate the law&#8221; then does it?
