{"id":9463,"date":"2013-09-20T06:13:56","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T06:13:56","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T06:13:56","slug":"en-US","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=9463","title":{"rendered":"ThreatPost: FISC: No Phone Company Ever Challenged Metadata Collection Orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ThreatPost: <a href=\"http:\/\/threatpost.com\/fisc-no-phone-company-ever-challenged-metadata-collection-orders\">FISC: No Phone Company Ever Challenged Metadata Collection Orders<\/a> by Dennis Fisher:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A newly declassified opinion from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court from this summer shows the court\u2019s interpretation of the controversial Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act that\u2019s used to justify the National Security Agency\u2019s bulk telephone metadata collections, and reveals that none of the companies that have been served with such orders has ever challenged one.<\/p>\n<p>The opinion, which is one of just a handful of such documents to be made public in the last few months as the leaks of the NSA\u2019s collection and cryptographic capabilities have continued to mount, lays out much of the court\u2019s thinking and reasoning for continuing to grant the agency permission to gather telephone metadata on hundreds of millions of Americans.
