{"id":5515,"date":"2011-05-05T16:18:51","date_gmt":"2011-05-05T15:53:29","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-05-05T15:53:29","slug":"en-US","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=5515","title":{"rendered":"CBS NY: &#8220;Consumer Alert: TomTom Reportedly Sold GPS User Data To Police To Target Motorists&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CBS New York Radio: <a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.cbslocal.com\/2011\/05\/05\/consumer-alert-tomtom-reportedly-sold-gps-user-data-to-police-to-target-motorists\/\">Consumer Alert: TomTom Reportedly Sold GPS User Data To Police To Target Motorists<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NEW YORK (WCBS 880) &#8211; You know what your GPS device is telling you, but do you know how the company is using that information?<\/p>\n<p>TomTom had admitted that it provided data to police in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Bartlett of Consumer Reports says, \u201cThe police are using the information not only to determine traffic flows, but reportedly, they\u2019re also using it to set up speed traps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After being caught, the company apologized and said individual privacy was never jeopardized. They also say this was not done in the United States.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Right.<\/p>\n<p>And, unless you\u2019ve been sleeping for the last three years, you know that GPS devices can be seized by the police and download one\u2019s trips when it has been on. <\/p>\n<p>It boggles the mind how the police can screw the public with technology. It boggles the mind more when the oddsmakers have a <a href=\"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/blog\/index.php?blog=1&amp;title=ap_gov_t_files_cert_petition_in_gps_case&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\">cert grant in <em>Jones\/Maynard<\/em><\/a> at 3-2.
