{"id":5265,"date":"2011-03-09T18:17:22","date_gmt":"2011-03-09T18:17:22","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-03-09T18:17:22","slug":"en-US","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=5265","title":{"rendered":"Police drones in the news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On CBS4 Miami: <a href=\"http:\/\/miami.cbslocal.com\/2011\/03\/09\/dade-cops-waiting-to-get-crime-fighting-drone-airborne\/\">Dade Cops Waiting To Get Crime Fighting Drone Airborne<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Miami-Dade\u2019s newest crime fighting tool is a literal \u2018eye in the sky\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Micro Air Vehicle, or MAV for short, is a small radio controlled drone aircraft equipped with a portable camera system. Miami-Dade Sgt. Andrew Cohen said drone will be used to gather real time information in situations which may be too dangerous for officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf an SRT (Special Response Team) has to go into an area they don\u2019t know what\u2019s there, we don\u2019t know what is in the backyard,\u201d said Cohen, \u201cThey want to know if there are dogs in the backyard, if there is a shed, things that could be a threat to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MAV is used by the military to scan dangerous areas before troops are sent in.
