Their purpose was not search for evidence but respond to an emergency. The defendant assaulted the officers with a sword. Under the attenuation doctrine, defendant&#8217;s subsequent crime against the officers broke any causal connection. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.state.hi.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/SCWC-16-0000797.pdf\">State v.
