{"id":41006,"date":"2019-12-04T04:20:35","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T09:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=41006"},"modified":"2019-12-04T04:20:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T09:20:35","slug":"jdsupra-press-release-doj-announces-new-drone-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=41006","title":{"rendered":"JDSupra (press release): DOJ Announces New Drone Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JDSupra (press release): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdsupra.com\/legalnews\/doj-announces-new-drone-policy-83248\/\">DOJ Announces New Drone Policy<\/a> by Kelly Daly<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Calling it \u201ca paradigm-shifting technology with far-reaching social impact,\u201d on November 27, 2019, the Federal government announced the issuance of the new Department of Justice Policy on the Use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (the \u201cPolicy\u201d) governing the operation on Unmanned Aircraft System (\u201cUAS\u201d or \u201cDrone\u201d) technology.<\/p>\n<p>When properly deployed, DOJ acknowledges that UAS technology can serve as a promising tool for enhancing public safety and security, increasing efficiency and reducing risks to law enforcement. To minimize perceived misuses and cybersecurity risks, the DOJ announced its initiative to create \u201ca framework designed to provide accountability and protect privacy and civil liberties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new Policy, which supersedes the DOJ\u2019s 2015 guidance, governs the Department\u2019s use of UAS technology and directs that such use will be in compliance with all applicable provisions of the Constitution, including the Fourth Amendment\u2019s protection against unreasonable searches and seizures and other laws and regulations.
