{"id":3145,"date":"2009-05-19T07:43:33","date_gmt":"2009-05-19T07:43:33","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-19T07:43:33","slug":"en-US","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fourthamendment.com\/?p=3145","title":{"rendered":"CNN: More on virtual strip search by airport screening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CNN posted an article yesterday afternoon about an effort to stop body scans at airports being virtual strip searches. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/TRAVEL\/05\/18\/airport.security.body.scans\/index.html\">Airport security bares all, or does it?<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Privacy advocates plan to call on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to suspend use of &#8220;whole-body imaging,&#8221; the airport security technology that critics say performs &#8220;a virtual strip search&#8221; and produces &#8220;naked&#8221; pictures of passengers, CNN has learned.<\/p>\n<p>The national campaign, which will gather signatures from organizations and relevant professionals, is set to launch this week with the hope that it will go &#8220;viral,&#8221; said Lillie Coney, associate director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which plans to lead the charge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People need to know what&#8217;s happening, with no sugar-coating and no spinning,&#8221; said Coney, who is also coordinator of the Privacy Coalition, a conglomerate of 42 member organizations.
