In a jarring break from the George W. Bush era, the Republican National Committee voted Friday to adopt a resolution demanding an investigation into the National Security Agency\u2019s spy programs.<\/p>\n

According to the resolution, the NSA metadata program revealed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden is deemed \u201can invasion into the personal lives of American citizens that violates the right of free speech and association afforded by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.\u201d In addition, \u201cthe mass collection and retention of personal data is in itself contrary to the right of privacy protected by the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When it was their guy, spying like that was necessary for the War on Terror. When it’s not their guy, it’s an invasion of civil liberties. Well, to give them the benefit of the doubt: We know a lot more now about what the NSA’s been doing since 2001 in the last year. Still, is Congress doing anything?
